Here’s a few quick tips for caring for your flowers that you receive this Valentines Day to keep them looking as beautiful as the day they were delivered:
1. If they arrived in a vase, check the water level in the bottom of the container immediately. If they need more water, add room temperature water halfway up the vase…do not use cold water, as they will shock the flowers and they may lose their petals.
2. If you are using your own vase, use on large enough for the bouquet, and do not crown the stems. Fill it up halfway with lukewarm water that has not been treated in a water softener.
3. Remove any leaves that will be below the water level, being careful not to scratch the or cut throught the green bark of the stems, as air may enter the stem at thes points and block the flow of water to the blossom.
4. You can also very gently remove the outermost petals on the flower itself that may be withered or bruised during shipping of the bouquet. Don’t worry, this will not hurt the flower blossom, and will actually allow it to open fully.
6. Fill a sink or bowl with water, and make a diagonal cut about one inch above the bottom of the stem with a sharp knife or a pair of kitchen shears or swissors. Place these flowers in a vase immediately and do not let the end of the stems to dry.
7. If your bouquet arrived with a floral preservative packet, combine it with lukewarm water as per the directions on the packer, and add this mixture to the water in the vase.
8. Keep your fresh flowers in as temperate a climate as possible, avoiding drafty areas like in front of an exterior door…also do not leave flowers exposed to direct sunlight, or in front of electronic appliances or radiators that may throw off some heat.
9. Be sure to check you Valentine bouquet every day to make sure that the water level is adequate. Also, change the water immediately if it appears cloudy or discolored.
10. If your roses appear droopy or withered, or have not opened up within several days, there may be air trapped in the stems. Recut the stem as per the directions in step #6 above.
While sending flowers to your sweetheart is the traditional choice of many to say “I love you” on Valentines Day, there are so many other ways to show your Valentine how you feel. For instance, there are several different types of gift baskets, including a spa gift basket, coffee gift baskets, cookie gift baskets, wine baskets, gourmet gifts, fruit gift baskets, chocolate baskets, and even organic gift baskets to send a gift to your Valentine.

Hey Jay! I wanted to stop on over and say hi, and thanks for the comment on my site! I love making new friends online – and it’s nice to see Commission Ritual students out there making a go of it.
I love this site and design! Roses are such a wonderful gift – I think my favorite idea is the 12 months of roses. Fabulous suggestion!
Valentine’s Day is so stressfull! Last year I went to buy flowers at the grocery store for Valentines, but the quality was low. I guess that’s what I get for waiting till the last minute. This year I’ll just by them online and have them delivered.
Happy Vday!
Tony
Your roses are simply beautiful. I particularly like the purple bouquet…not the usual Valentines Day combination. I see from Julie’s comment that you are another CR member. Nice to see folks’ work out here. Good use of video with helpful information about roses. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Excellent blog you have here. I’m a long time reader, but haven’t commented before, I just had to say how much I enjoy the site. Where did you get this great idea I really like it.
It’s good to see some CR people here. I really like your flowers and hope things are going well. You have found some really nice themes for your site. Have a Happy Valentines Day!
I really like vibrancy of the bouquets you have presented in your blog – stunning. My favourite arrangement are the Orchids. What a wonderful alternative for Valentines day flowers? Im quite unconventional myself so love the idea of the unusual – what made you include them here as so many other blogs only mention roses and how did you find that beautiful arrangement? Great blog with great ideas. Have a lovely Valentines day!
Really good tips for caring for your flowers once recieved. Most people have no idea what to do to prolong the freshness of the flowers but this is a comphensive guide helping in doing just that – thanks or the post.
Receiving a floral gift is one thing, taking care of the gift is another. All the other websites have been writing about the singnificance of flowers, but you went further to talk about how to care of it. Thanks for the care tips.
Thanks for care tips….Now i can buy bunch of roses 2 days before valentine day & save money.
